GREEN CHRISTMAS: Three Rivers sustainability group gives eco-friendly Christmas tips

Published on: 4th December 2022   |   By: News Bulletin   |   Category: Uncategorized

As the Christmas season approaches, local eco-friendly group Sustainable Three Rivers (S3R) have come up with several tips and tricks that you can use to help make your Christmas better for the environment.

– Focus on gifts that are practical, which will be used and genuinely appreciated.

– You can find some amazing, good quality gifts at charity shops – no need to buy new!

– Vouchers for experiences are often more appreciated than more “things” we don’t really need.

– Consider gifting your time, which is often the most valuable gift of all. You could make up your own voucher to do someone’s ironing, cook them a meal, look after their children or do some gardening for them.

– Shop local where possible and support local Christmas markets. If shopping online, use ethical, sustainable companies where possible. A quick search will bring these up.

– We’re all worried about fuel bills this year, so consider gifts that help your family stay cosy at home so they can turn down the heating, such as warm blankets, socks and jumpers.

– Buy children, and adults, gifts that will get them off their screens and appreciating nature! The National Trust, RSPB and RHS have great ranges including seed bombs, bird boxes and much more.
