A business owner in Bushey who popped out to get a drink ended up saving a group of ducklings.
Ashley Kelman, who owns The Kelman Deli, saw a crowd had gathered near the pharmacy on High Road, on July 31, only to discover a duck and her ducklings appeared to be lost.
He then decided to get the family back to their home at Warren Lake, but this was a struggle.
He explained: “All the people gathered round them were scaring them, so I walked ahead, and we managed to get the ducks to followed me.
“When they crossed at Warren Road the ducklings walked over a drain cover and four of them fell in. I opened up the drain and tried to reach down, but I couldn’t get to them.
“Luckily a woman walked past with a long dustpan and brush so I asked her if I could use it to get the ducklings out.”
The mother was overjoyed, started to jump in the air and flap its wings when Ashley brought them over one at a time.
Ashley added: “Loads of people thanked me and when I went back to the shop there was people still talking to me about it.
“It was a nice sense of achievement. I would’ve felt awful if I left them in the drain.”
The duck and her ducklings are now safe and well at Warren Lake.
