GREAT EFFORTS: Pop-in tea in Radlett for cancer charity raises more than £2,500

An afternoon tea in Radlett raised more than £2,500 for charity, Breast Cancer Now, in memory of a resident’s beloved mum.

Barbara Morris (left), alongside her sister, Ruth (right), hosted residents at her home in the village on Saturday, August 7, from 2-6pm, in tribute to their mother, Joyce Zoltie.

The pop-in tea took place in gazebos and many residents showed up to donate, while others from the community, including local businesses, donated online.

Following the event, Barbara said: “I am blown away. We had the best time – I’m exhausted, but it was phenomenal.

“It was heavy rain all morning and I was gutted, but at 2pm, when the event started, the sun shone and at 6pm, when the last person left, the storms started.

“My mum (and dad) for sure were looking down on us!

“We had around 30 raffle prizes all donated by the local businesses. The people who never managed to come all donated on JustGiving and are still doing so.

“People drove and walked from near and far and the feedback has been amazing.

“It was one of the best family days we have had, shared with all our friends, and to see my sister by my side after battling through Breast Cancer at 54 whilst we buried my mum 10 years ago, was the most special moment ever.”
