A member of the planning department at St Albans City & District Council was honoured as part of a list of influential women for International Women’s Day.

Charlotte Morphet, Spatial Planning and Design Team Leader on the Planning and Building Control team at the council and co-founder of Women in Planning was recognised as part of The Planner’s Women of Influence.

Speaking about being recognised as part of the Women of Influence list, Charlotte commented that it was nice to be appreciated for her work in the industry.

She said: “I felt very honoured especially to be included alongside so many amazing women working in the sector.

“It’s always a lovely list because not only do you see people who you admire, as role models are always important but it’s really lovely to see what other women in the industry are doing.”

Charlotte spoke to StAlbansNews to offer advice to those who were interested in pursuing a career in planning.

She said: “Go for it! Not only is it a great career but you are taught some incredibly useful skills such as problem solving.

“You get a really adaptable skill set from training as a planner and the job is really varied, no two days are the same.”

Charlotte added that she has been welcomed onto the team with open arms and couldn’t be more grateful.

She said: “I joined in September 2020 and like many people had been working from home, the best bit about the council is it’s a really supportive work culture.

“It’s really inclusive and welcoming, extra effort has been made to make me feel included when I’ve been working from home.”
