A schoolboy from Bushey has been selected to represent the county in a national table tennis competition.
Harvey Cheung, 14, who attends St Michael’s Catholic High School, is set to come face-to-face with some of the best players in the country at the Butterfly Schools’ Individual Table Tennis Championship National Finals.
Harvey was chosen after successfully fending off the competition at the Hertfordshire County Championship, and will now represent the county at the national finals in Wolverhampton on Saturday, April 22.
Speaking to BusheyNews, Harvey’s mum Rebecca said he absolutely loves the sport.
She said: “He started playing when he was about six years old. He plays national league regularly. He really enjoys it and trains three times a week.”
Rebecca added that she is incredibly proud of her son and is looking forward to seeing him compete at the finals.
She said: “He wasn’t going to enter this year but I encouraged him; it is one player per county that qualifies, so we are very proud.
“It is his biggest win. I think I was more chuffed than him. We have been looking forward to a gold medal for so long.
“He is looking forward to the finals but it will be a lot tougher; he will be competing against players from across the country.”
