Watford Town Cricket Club, based at Woodside Playing Fields in Garston, celebrated another enjoyable season at their presentation evenings.
At separate events, the most successful players in the senior and junior teams were rewarded with trophies to mark their individual achievements.
The club’s 1st team plays in Division 2B of the Hertfordshire Premier League and, after flirting with relegation during the early weeks of the season, they finished a respectable 7th. The batting award went to Haashir Mahmood, who scored 516 runs, while skipper Riahn Pieris picked up the leading bowler trophy after taking 33 wickets.
Pieris also won the trophy for the leading player in the club’s Chess Valley League matches after scoring 591 runs in just eight innings.
The club fielded five teams in the Hertfordshire League and it was the 5th team, playing in Division 15, which had the greatest success. They carried off the divisional title by a margin of 13 points.
The 5th team also boasted one of the outstanding players in the whole league, Abu Choudhury. Abu scored 421 runs in only six matches.
The club’s juniors, ranging in age from eight to 16, played under a new senior coach, Jahanzeb Rizvi, this season, and each of the different age group teams made great progress.
The club is continuing to offer indoor practice sessions throughout the winter from Wednesday, October 8. For more information, contact Andrew on 07901 000495 or Jahanzeb on 07782 501488.
