GOLD MEDAL: Amersham students take gold in national taekwondo championship

Two students from a school in Amersham achieved national success at a taekwondo championship in February.

At the ITF England National Championships on Saturday, February 8, Vivian Tsvetkova, nine, and Denis Ionut Muresan, 11, from Woodside Junior School both scooped gold.

Vivian was the gold medallist in the Cadet Female White Belt Pattern, the first level of taekwondo, while Denis took the title for the Cadet Male White/Yellow Belt Sparring (Green Wristbands).

Vivian’s mum Diana told AMERSHAMnews: “We’re very proud. Taekwondo is great for confidence and safety.

“I think she’s enjoying it. She does other things too like swimming, Spanish lessons and Bulgarian school.”

Diana was keen to stress that taking up taekwondo has been great for ensuring Vivian is active, saying that “it’s better than her being on the phone”.

She also said the sport has been made so entertaining for the children thanks to the work of Total TKD, who have centres in Croxley, Rickmansworth and Chorleywood, and also host taekwondo sessions at Woodside Junior School.

Diana said: “The leaders have a lot to do with her enjoying it; they make the children like the sport.

“She has a grading in March; she wants to move onto the yellow belt, but she has a few things she needs to do first to get that. She also has more competitions in the future.”
