GOING GREEN: Funding secured for new electric vehicle charging points across Three Rivers

Published on: 17th June 2024   |   By: News Bulletin   |   Category: Uncategorized

Tens of thousands of pounds of government funding will be used to expand the provision of off-street electric vehicle (EV) charging across Abbots Langley and the wider district.

Three Rivers District Council (TRDC) has received £101,250 from the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles to install multiple EV charging points in parking bays in the village, alongside other locations in Three Rivers. These include Rickmansworth, South Oxhey, Croxley, and Chorleywood.

Kimberley Rowley, TRDC’s head of regulatory devices, said: “The council made a commitment at the last General Public Services and Economic Development Committee on March 19 to expand the district’s provision of EV charging to enable more and more people to swap fossil fuel-powered vehicles to EVs, which in turn will result in cleaner air and help fast-forward in decarbonising the district.

“I am happy that the council secured funding so quickly, with assistance from the Energy Saving Trust, to enable the EV charging installations to be progressed.

“This news will give people and businesses the confidence to make the swap to EVs knowing that the appropriate charging infrastructure will be in place.”

Alternative sources of funding, such as the government’s Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Fund, are also being explored to further increase the EV charging network to car parks at leisure centres, parks, council offices and on-street residential parking.

TRDC has stated that it is currently working to appoint the charge point operator, who will install, operate, and maintain the charge points. It si hoped that the charge points will be available to EV drivers later this year.
