GLOWING: Stanmore Christmas lights

Published on: 6th December 2021   |   By: Christina Pantelly   |   Category: Uncategorized

Stanmore neighbours who first began displaying Christmas lights for children to enjoy are once again raising money for charity.

For the second year running, residents Howard Tompkins and Paul Symons have decorated their houses at 1 and 3 Kenneth Gardens to raise money for charity.

Expecting to raise no more than £200, the neighbours were shocked when they discovered they had raised a total of £1,750 last year.

This year, they have chosen to raise money for Just4 Children’s Helping Henri campaign, which aims to provide four-year-old Henri, who suffers from a genetic disorder called Angelman Syndrome, with specialist therapies to enable him to walk and become more mobile and independent.

The lights attracted a lot of interest in the neighbourhood, with up to 40 people coming along to view the impressive displays.

The neighbours started installing lights 10 years ago when the neighbours determined that they would either have to do nothing, or go overboard, which they did.

Howard said: “If you want tasteful Christmas decorations, don’t come here.”

The rear gardens are also lit up, with a path leading to Santa’s Stanmore Grotto, where Santa gives out small presents to about 60 of the family’s friends’ children.

Howard’s house took a total of nine days to complete – four days for the front, four days for the back and one day for the grotto.

Paul’s house took a whole day to complete with the help of his wife and children.
