FESTIVE FUNDRAISER: Watford Mayor’s charity Christmas card raises over £7,500 for local charities

A local student at Beechfield School who created this year’s Christmas card for the Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor, has helped raise over £7,500 for local charities Random Café and Playskill.

Every year, the Mayor sends out a card sponsored by local firms to charities, voluntary groups and businesses across the town, and this year the festive card showing Watford filled with Christmas spirit was drawn by Beechfield School student Kristian.

The money raised will support Random Café Watford, a community hub which uses waste food donations from supermarkets, and Playskill, a charity which provides intensive therapy for pre-school children with special physical needs, alongside vital specialist support for parents.

Andrea Clarke, the founder of Playskill, said “We are so grateful to the Mayor Peter Taylor, Beechfield School and the local businesses who sponsored this year’s Christmas card for their generous support. You have lifted our spirits and it’s because of you, and the kindness of the local community, our vital groups can continue and it will also help us to expand to meet the demand in the town.”

“This past year has shown us more than ever how incredibly important our work is, with demand for our services at an all-time high. Our groups really are a lifeline to parents and children who are living with physical disabilities and it’s vital that we raise the funds to continue them.”

Jane Johnson, founder of the Random Café, said: “We are very grateful to Peter Taylor, Kristian from Beechfield School and all the local firms which have contributed to this initiative. This donation will make a big difference to us continuing to maintain our valuable service. The Random Café is such an important project with a strong focus on sustainability as well as offering something truly needed in the area with the pay as you can ethos in the pop-up shop and future café.”

Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor said: “I’m really touched by the generosity of the firms who support my Christmas card – including Camelot, Wenta, Watford Football Club, Murrill Construction, Everyone Active, Warner Bros, West Herts Golf Club, Veolia and Sigma.

“I am so pleased that their generous donations will have a positive impact for my chosen charities this year, Random Café Watford and Playskill, so that they can continue helping people in Watford and Hertfordshire. I am also so grateful to Beechfield School and Kristian for the brilliant card design.”
