A Croxley councillor has been running across the world to raise money for charity.
County and district councillor Chris Lloyd kicked off his efforts by completing both the Milton Keynes and Edinburgh marathons in May. He took on the challenges in support of the Christian charity Tearfund, which works with churches in over 50 of the world’s poorest countries to combat poverty and injustice through sustainable development.
On Sunday, September 22, cllr Lloyd participated in two 10k races in Shardeloes and Moor Park.
Though he had already exceeded his initial fundraising goal of £1,500, he went on to run the Chester and Washington marathons in October.
Recently, cllr Lloyd has also been supporting another charity close to his heart. While completing the Burnham Beeches Half Marathon and The Big Half, he has been raising money and awareness for Prostate Cancer UK.
On Sunday, October 12, his 45th wedding anniversary, cllr Lloyd ran the Royal Parks Half Marathon.
He shared with CROXLEYnews: “I ran for Prostate Cancer UK in memory of my father and father-in-law. My brother is in remission. I have several friends at different stages of treatment for prostate cancer.”
Another participant in the Royal Parks Half Marathon, Vicky Gopal, shared: “As a GP, I witness heart disease’s toll. After losing my father-in-law to a heart attack during COVID, I ran [the marathon] to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation.”
Other runners were raising money for PhabKids and Great Ormond Street Hospital.
