GET SET: Stanmore resident joins friends to trek India in tuk-tuk for charity

Published on: 5th November 2024   |   By: Nik Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

A Stanmore resident is combining with two friends to create Team Tuk Fast Tuk Furious, hoping to embark on craziest adventure of their lives, driving a rickshaw across India to raise funds for Shishukunj projects benefiting children in need.

Baiju Shah is joining the group trading in their comfy cars for a tuk-tuk between Friday, December 13 and Christmas Day for the 3,000km trek over the 13 days, having already raised 75 per cent of their £6,000 fundraising target at the time of writing.

Starting from Rameshwaram in the south east near Sri Lanka and ending up in the north west near Pakistan, none of TTFTF have ever driven in India, let alone a tuk-tuk.

Baiju told STANMOREnews: “Driving a tuk-tuk 3,000km across India is no easy journey, but each bump in the road and every sweltering mile is worth it to help build a school.

“This challenge is about more than just endurance, it’s a promise to bring opportunity and education to children who deserve a brighter future.

“Every kilometre brings us closer to turning hope into reality.”

There are three projects that the group are supporting, starting with completing phase three of Shishukunj School in Bhuj and constructing residential facilities for children from low-income homes.

The group are also supporting Shishukunj Education Programme, empowering children through education, and a food bank programme, providing essential supplies for a better quality of life in London.

On their Just Giving page, the group said: “We’re pretty sure we’ll be honking more than we’ll be driving, and our navigation skills will be tested more than a Bollywood action hero’s reflexes.

“If we don’t get lost, accidentally run over any cows, or somehow end up in a tuk-tuk drift battle, we’ll consider ourselves lucky.

“This adventure isn’t just about the thrill of the road. It’s a fundraiser to support Shishukunj and its projects benefiting children in need.”

All the donations will go directly to the three fundraisers, as the group will be covering all the costs of the adventure.
