A local group of volunteers at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust will continue their hard work at Amersham Hospital this March
The Amersham Hospital Gardens Project (AHGP) has already transformed four courtyard garden spaces at the hospital and has another seven left to complete.
The project aims to rejuvenate the gardens into nature-friendly spaces that provide wildlife habitats and calming spaces for NHS staff and patients to rest and recover.
The volunteers use plants that specifically attract insects, as well as using the NHS’ blue and white colour palette to create “calming and relaxed” spaces.
AHGP is made up of 20 volunteers, and they welcome other new volunteers preferably those with experience in gardening.
They hope to complete other gardens in this special NHS 75th anniversary year and would love to hear from local businesses that would like to be part of the project.
Hugh started volunteering for the project two years ago and says the staff are “really appreciative” of the work the volunteers do.
He said: “The staff love and appreciate the gardens and have got heavily involved in watering the plants. It’s been a real community effort with donations and support from local residents, community organisations and businesses.
“People in the local area love being a part of it – we’ve run sessions with youngsters from schools, and the Chiltern Rangers have helped out too. It would be nice to get even more community involvement.”
