A Bushey resident has raised an outstanding £2,000 for charity after completing an ultra-marathon with only two months’ training.
As reported in last month’s Busheynews, Sam Goldberg committed to running 55k around Bushey on Saturday, July 26, to raise funds for the charity Israel365.
Catching up with Busheynews after the challenge, Sam said: “I set off at around 7.30am and did the first 8k on my own and as it was early in the morning, it was easy.
“Then my dad joined me for the next 8k, which was helpful as it was a morale booster and helped to take my mind off the running.”
Others members of Sam’s family, as well as several friends, also ran with him to boost his spirits, but it was still a hard feat.
He said: “At around 30k, the cramp started settling in and by the time I hit the marathon mark, both legs were hardly functioning.
“I am proud because I didn’t expect to raise as much as I did and it is a good feeling to see people come together for such a great cause.”
