The 1st Chorleywood Scouts have been given a funding boost to refurbish their headquarters.
The Scouts’ HQ, which was built in 1956, closed in summer 2024 following an inspection that led to the discovery of critical safety issues.
Three Rivers District Council’s (TRDC) Policy and Resources Committee approved the group’s funding request at a meeting on Monday, June 9.
The grant of £190,000 will go towards rewiring, fire prevention measures, new kitchen installation, new toilet provision, improved disabled access, insulation, and more.
TRDC also awarded £125,000 to the Batchworth Sea Scouts in Rickmansworth, which will be used to replace the roof on the group’s HQ.
Councillor Stephen Giles-Medhurst, Leader of TRDC, said: “It’s fantastic that we can help these two Scout groups to start making essential repairs to their respective buildings.
“Scouts has made a huge impact to peoples’ lives, so I am delighted to see that they will be able to continue their invaluable work in fit-for-purpose buildings for generations to come.”
