FRONT GARDEN FESTIVAL: Berkhamsted COVID group announces community-driven event

Published on: 9th July 2020   |   By: Jake Levison   |   Category: Uncategorized

The admins of the Berkhamsted COVID-19 Mutual Aid support group have some exciting announcements to make as lockdown restrictions continue to ease, including the introduction of an upcoming virtual festival.

Co-admin Jon Russell (pictured) said: “We think that this is a good time to change the direction of the group. Three members of the admin group – myself, Lisa and Hilary – will be moving the existing Facebook page in the direction of a community group that can grow and evolve beyond the pandemic.

“Called ‘Berko Community’, the Facebook group will be focussed on growing the community links that have already been started through helping others and moving more towards a sustainable group where various ideas and initiatives will be shared. The first one of those initiatives for this evolving group will be an exciting project called the Front Garden Festival.

“The festival gives us an opportunity to celebrate our community through music, culture, arts, food or other ways and portray our experience of lockdown whether positive, negative or mixed and what has helped us during this time.

“Between July 20 and August 31, we invite you to go to your front garden, doorstep, balcony or window in order to display, present or offer something. You could do this alone or alongside neighbours (socially distanced). Then send us a photo or video with a description so that we can display your contribution on our website and social media. We will provide a final showcase or presentation at the end of the festival. If anyone wants to help us make a short film let us know.

“In terms of our COVID-19 Mutual Aid support, this is still very close to all our hearts and we plan to keep this running quietly in the background. We will keep the email – info@berkocommunity.org open and monitored, and we will also keep your names on file (if you are happy with that) and – should a second wave occur – we will step up this support and reactivate the network you have been part of across the town.”
