Former Bushey nursing home to be converted into flats

Published on: 14th June 2019   |   By: Jake Levison   |   Category: Uncategorized

A former nursing home in Bushey is to be developed into a mix of new houses and flats after Hertsmere Borough Council (HBC) approved a new planning application.

The plans to redevelop Birchville Court in Heathbourne Road, Bushey Heath, involve turning the site into 14 houses and 27 flats.

The council initially approved redevelopment of the property several years ago, with the original plans focussed on building five houses and 36 flats.

But the new plans will now move ahead instead, with 14 affordable units written into the agreement along with 98 parking spaces and 66 cycling spaces.

Birchville Court, which will be rebranded as Heathbourne Village became an NHS Accommodation Building for Nurses working at the nearby Bushey Maternity Hospital in 1947 and from 1987 a private nursing home. The property has been rundown in recent years with planning applications for redevelopment back into private residential housing first mooted back in 2008.

Luxury developer Consero London acquired the 3.5 acre property back in February – it has not yet been confirmed when works will begin.

Steven Glover, land and sales director of Consero London, said: “Returning the Birchville Court site to its residential origins will create exciting opportunities for buyers since a Consero London scheme in Bushey will provide premium homes that will set a benchmark for high quality and good design in the local marketplace.”
