The owner of a Chinese restaurant in Abbots Langley has thanked “brilliant” customers as they prepare to close after 17 years in the village.
Pin Wei in High Street will close its doors for good in December after the landlord of the building decided to sell up.
The restaurant will now be turned into homes, marking the end of an era in Abbots Langley.
Choy Chan, Pin Wei’s owner, tried to negotiate with the landlord but was unsuccessful.
The news has been tough for Choy, as well as staff and customers, who have expressed their grief over the loss of the beloved restaurant.
Choy told AbbotsNews: “Sadly, there isn’t a lot we can do as the landlord wants the building back.
“It’s not by choice but it is right and the land will now be developed.
“We have no plans to reopen so it’s the end of an era. We have almost become part of the furniture in Abbots Langley.
“We have been lucky to have brilliant customers over the years and we have seen generations of people grow up.
“Some customers have been in tears to hear we are closing, which shows how big this is.
“We hope to have the restaurant open until Christmas Eve and then do takeaways after that. However, a lot will depend on what staff we have as I won’t stop any of them taking opportunities.”
So sad to hear this! 😢
So very sad. As a coeliac I have always eaten in the restaurant with absolute confidence that I do not have elsewhere and that is because they know which food contains gluten and us unsuitable for me
This will almost certainly be the end of me eating chinese food. Heartbroken.
Absolutely gutted! Such an amazing restaurant. Been using it for years to sit in and for a take away. What a rubbish landlord!
Could not believe this terrible news when I heard it. The Pin Wei is not only the most amazing restaurant in Abbots Langley but for many miles around.
The food the atmosphere and the amazing colleagues make this the place to go if you want to make sure a special occasion is a memorable one.
It really is a tragic loss.
so few decent eat in Chinese restaurants around these days. Is a sad loss
