A businessman has shared the heartfelt story of growing up in Garston with his two friends, and their final flight as a trio.
Declan Ganley, Iain Mac Pherson and Chris Slater all grew up in Garston, before Iain moved back to Ireland at 13.
He went on to become an entrepreneur, businessman, political activist, and founder and leader of the Irish branch of the eurosceptic Libertas Party. More than 40 years later, Declan is reflecting on his final meet up with the trio.
Posting on his social media on Saturday, March 29, he said: “Exactly a year ago, I got to spend my final mate’s day out with my friend from earliest childhood, Iain Mac Pherson.
“Our trio of Chris Slater, Iain and yours truly, grew up as pals since we were toddlers in Garston, Watford. I moved home to Ireland when I was going on 13, but we remained friends for life. Iain went on to be a successful Detective Inspector in the police.
“On what turned out to be our last day together outside the hospice, we did a formation flight of WWII Spitfires and a fly-past of where we grew up together.
“The Lord called Iain home just a few weeks later. May God grant his soul eternal rest. We miss you mate.”
