Floods of emails after blocked drain causes chaos

Flooding caused by a blocked drain on Rickmansworth Road has forced a number of residents to contact My Chorleywood & Loudwater News. One resident, Stuart Young, said he had been in constant contact with Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) about the issue and it has been rumbling on for more than two years. He said: “A few weeks ago a friend of mine contacted HCC to report a blocked drain outside The Court in Rickmansworth Road, Chorleywood, which was causing minor flooding. “He received a reply from CRC highways stating that most of the gullies are cleaned every 18 months. “On August 26, Chorleywood received a very heavy downpour resulting in serious flooding which extended to both sides of the carriageway, Most people, including myself, who drive past The Court know that the flooding problem has been occurring for at least two to three years and have not seen any improvement during this period.” Mr Young then provided a whole raft of evidence, sending in a dozen photos of the drain being blocked on numerous occasions. He added: “I decided to undertake a photographic survey on the February 27, 2014 of the drains and gullies in some of the roads in Chorleywood around the area where I live. “The results show that approximately 90 per cent of the drains and gullies were totally blocked. I recently walked up Quickley Lane (one of the roads on which I did the survey). “Given that 18 months has passed since my original survey I again took photographs of the drains/gullies and found that there had been no change as all the drains/gullies were still totally blocked.” For more on this read the next edition of My Chorleywood & Loudwater News out on September 25.
