A number of Watford roads have suffered from flash flooding following this afternoon’s (Monday, June 12) downpour.

A spokesperson for Herts Police said: “We are experiencing a high volume of 999 emergency calls involving cars being stuck in flooded roads in Watford. Road closures are currently in place on Balmoral Road and Radlett Road following this afternoon’s downpour.

“Please try and find alternative routes and do not try and drive through large, flooded areas or roads.

“We need to be able to respond to emergencies and will not be able to rescue drivers from their vehicles.”

Hertfordshire County Council Highways have issued followed warnings in Watford:

  • Reports of flash flooding on Orphanage Road and St Albans Road, roads are blocked.
  • Flash Flooding on the A41 closed at Leavesden Interchange and St Albans Road Blocked at Dome Rbt.
  • Road closures are currently in place on Balmoral Road and Radlett Road. Please try to find alternative routes and don’t try and drive through large, flooded areas or roads.
  • Flash Flooding at the junction of Bushey Mill Ln and Radlett Road. Police closure is in place and long delays on Woodmere Avenue.

The same issues have been appearing all over the county. In Berkhamsted, both Waitrose and WHSmiths have closed for the day, with the former’s car park “completely flooded” according to local residents, whilst the latter lost electricity after the floods.
