We all have things lying around that could do with repairing.
Thanks to the trustees of the former Rudolf Steiner School, Kings Langley residents will finally be able to give their old belongings a new lease of life.
Five years ago, as part of the development of the Kings Langley Neighbourhood Plan, the importance of social inclusion for men and women over 50 was seen as an important issue to address.
To meet this demand, a Repair Shed was suggested, where ‘Shedders’ could carry out repair and restoration work alongside sharing “friendship, knowledge and fun”.
Initial funding was provided and an unused football changing room on Primrose Hill was suggested as premises for the Shed.
However, COVID-19 and structural problems at the proposed site meant this couldn’t go ahead.
Thankfully, the trustees of the former Rudolf Steiner School stepped forward and the funding has been transferred to the school, meaning the Repair Shed will open imminently.
Speaking to KINGSnews, parish councillor Alan Johnson said: “[The original premises] were not ideal… Because we will now be able to use a purpose-built classroom on the school site, it is already fitted out for teaching.
“The bonus is that those wonderful people at Community Action Dacorum will also be able to cover more age ranges and days of the week in addition to providing training in traditional skills.”
Further details will be announced at a later date.
