A woman from Bushey who took the plunge of leaving her job to launch her own bagel business is thrilled to have won Best New COVID Business in the Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire Muddy Stilettos Awards.
Francesca Goldhill put the town on the map after launching her popular business Bagels and Schmear in December 2020.
She told BusheyNews: “It all came about because I used to live in New York, and since coming back I could not find anywhere in the local area, or the whole of London, that resembled the delicious bagels you get over there.
“I realised the only way I could satisfy my craving was to bake them myself. During lockdown I was furloughed and had more time to experiment with creating New York style bagels, which are crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside.”
Bagels and Schmear has been a huge hit with customers in Bushey and all across Hertfordshire and North London. Francesca, who runs the business from her home on Ashfield Avenue, has been able to leave her full time job to focus on and expand her business venture.
She added: “I am having so much fun with it and learning a lot along on this exciting journey. The pandemic definitely spurred me to do it, I don’t think I would have had the guts otherwise. If anyone has an idea and you’re on the fence, I would say just go for it!”
