The Welcome Club has been told by the British Red Cross that their use of the Croxley Red Cross Centre is to cease this month.
A deadline of Friday, September 13, was given to the much-loved local organisation, bringing an end to 58 years of their use of the community space.
Councillor Stephen Giles-Medhurst, Leader of Three Rivers District Council (TRDC), has confirmed to Croxley News that the Welcome Club has found a new venue in All Saints’ Church.
He also stated that the club is being allowed to keep some of its possessions on-site for the next three months, as they look for a new place to store them. TRDC is due to take ownership of the Red Cross Centre in November.
Currently, the centre’s future is proving a contentious issue amongst residents. Several plans have been put forward, including for Croxley Green Parish Council (CGPC) to move its offices to the site and retain some of the building as a community space.
TRDC officers are currently reviewing the findings of an independent valuation of the site, and they are set to meet with CGPC following this. They have emphasised that any decisions about the future of the property will then be referred to the correct committee for agreement.
Barry Grant, from the Croxley Green Residents’ Association (CGRA), said: “Obviously, CGRA supports the parish council buying the building and we support the plan that seeks to create a village centre/hub utilising this building.
“We hope we can work with TRDC to make this happen in Croxley.”
