A consultation has been launched on plans to close a number of train station ticket offices, including at Gerrards Cross railway station.
Chiltern Railways, alongside other railway companies, have announced plans to close many ticket offices across the network. Existing staff would transition to new ‘customer help’ roles.
Mick Lynch, the general secretary of the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers, said: “The decision to close up to 1,000 ticket offices and to issue hundreds of redundancy notices to staff is a savage attack on railway workers, their families and the travelling public.
“This is catastrophic for elderly, disabled and vulnerable passengers.”
A spokesperson for Chiltern Railways said: “Our proposal is for you to purchase your travel online or via mobile apps before arriving at the station.
“However, if you are unable to do so, staff will be available at stations to assist with your ticket purchase from self-service ticket vending machines.
“Bringing staff out from offices would allow the railway to respond to that generational shift in customer behaviour.”
