Watford FC have announced their 2020/21 squad numbers, and striker Joao Pedro has been given the number 10 shirt, while Danny Welbeck, who previously had it, has moved to number 38.
Pedro, 18, signed for the Hornets in January this year from Brazilian club Fluminense and has played five times for the club.
Speaking via Watford’s club website, Pedro feels like he is improving at the club, he said: “I think lockdown was a really important time for me, I bulked up. It is important to be able to be strong on the pitch, protect the ball and hold the ball.
“I think the South Americans have helped me a lot to settle in. They have helped with everything I’ve needed, Adam Masina, too. I think everyone has helped, even those that don’t understand what I’m saying. I feel settled now, I’ve adapted.
“It was my main objective when coming on against Arsenal to keep Watford in the first division. Unfortunately, we didn’t manage it. I was able to contribute and I think I was really aggressive coming on the left. I managed to get right up there.”
Other standout changes are that new signings Jeremy Ngakia and Glenn Murray take the number three and 17 shirts, respectively.
Welbeck’s move to number 38 could suggest that he is one of the players who is expected to be leaving the club before the end of the summer transfer window.
Watford kick off their Championship campaign tomorrow night (September 11) at home against Middlesbrough.
