FANTASTIC FUNDRAISING: Pinner seven-year-old delighted to donate her hair to special cause

A seven-year-old girl from Pinner has gone above and beyond for her own birthday by donating some of her hair to The Little Princess Trust and raising almost £700 in the process.

Ellina Bhatia, a student at West Lodge Primary School in the village, was aware of the struggles that some people were going through and wanted to do something to help.

Her and her mother spoke about doing this many times while going for a haircut and decided that lockdown would be the perfect time to donate the hair as it allowed her to grow it out for a longer period of time.

On her fundraising page, Elina wrote: “In this difficult time, I want to help in my own small way and have decided to donate my long hair which I have grown with a lot of love and care.

“I hope you all will support my cause and help me raise funds for The Little Princess Trust.”

Speaking to PinnerNews, Ellina’s mother, Bharti, said: “She’s always wanted to do something like this and decided that she wanted to donate some of her hair to the Little Princess Trust on her birthday.

“She keeps asking how much money she has raised and it’s a very big deal to her. I kept asking her if she was sure she wanted to do this, but she was so brave and wanted to help young girls like herself.

“We were really shocked at how much she raised, whether it was from family or friends, people from Facebook groups or parents of other children at the school she goes to, we are all very grateful to the community who donated and wrote so many nice things about her.”

Due to the second lockdown, Ellina was forced to wait until December to send her hair to the charity but is now delighted to have been able to do so.

The fundraising page is still open for donations, so if you’d like to support the cause head to justgiving.com/fundraising/ellinabhatia
