A specialist nurse at Watford General Hospital who raised awareness of sepsis has been rewarded with an invitation to a garden party at Buckingham Palace.
Lynnette Mupopoma joined other NHS colleagues from the region for a garden party, held in the palace grounds in May to celebrate public sector, voluntary and community heroes.
She was recognised for her “excellent contributions” in raising sepsis awareness, which included teaching others how to spot early signs of the life-threatening condition and introducing life-saving systems at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
Lynnette said: “It was beautiful, I had so much fun. The music and the atmosphere were so lovely, and I felt like I was treated like royalty. I really wish I could have taken the team with me.
“I was born and raised in Zimbabwe, where opportunities were often limited and expectation could be low. That’s why receiving this nomination meant so much to me; it was a powerful reminder that your background doesn’t have to define your future, and that with determination, it is possible to rise above your circumstances.”
