EVAN HARTOG: Schoolboy from Radlett reaches regional final of public speaking competition

A young Radlett resident has come third in a prestigious public speaking competition.

Evan Hartog, 14, was the only member of the Jewish Free School (JFS) in Kenton to be selected for the Brent regional final of Jack Petchey’s Speak Out Challenge, a tournament open to every Year 10 state school student in London and Essex. Of the 712 students across the borough who entered the competition, only 16 made it to the final round, including Evan.

Each of the finalists then had the chance to deliver their speech in front of a panel of judges at Claremont School in Kenton on January 23.

Evan’s mum Zoe Hartog said: “Evan’s speech about snow globes was creative, satirical and funny. People in Hertfordshire don’t know much about Jack Petchey’s Speak Out Challenge because it’s only open to students in London and Essex, but we think it’s a really big deal that Evan did so well.”

Jack Petchey’s Speak Out Challenge offers 30,000 Year 10 students the chance to participate in free communication training whilst also creating opportunities for them to share their stories. Find out more at
