EPIC SUCCESS: Hertsmere friends create thriving volunteer group

Published on: 30th May 2020   |   By: Jake Levison   |   Category: Uncategorized

Four local friends have created a thriving volunteer group which is providing thousands of fresh meals to hospitals per day.

The group, called You Donate, We Deliver (YDWD) was created at the beginning of the pandemic by Radlett resident Sarah Laster, Katie Icklow, from Borehamwood, Jackie Commissar and David Benveniste, from Bushey.

Initially supplying a modest number of meals to two hospitals locally, YDWD has grown exponentially alongside the crisis and now meets a range of critical needs for medical frontline workers.

This includes: coordinating and delivering 2,000 fresh meals every day to 22 hospitals across London, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, rallying donations of toiletries and non-perishable goods to hundreds of hospital staff, fundraising for white goods to equip hospitals with adequate means for staff to keep and warm meals and even offering professional emotional support or out of hours emergency childcare to front line workers running on back to back shifts, often extending beyond school hours.

YDWD is galvanising unprecedented community support from 12 thriving and growing hubs across the Southeast and, in addition, 10 professional chefs are adding their valuable skills and time to the cause each and every day.

The friends are reaching out for more support to ensure every NHS hero, operating at all levels to see us all through this crisis, feels the love and support they deserve.

It costs £29,750 every week to feed and support the many hospitals and wider NHS teams who rely on us.
