Green thumbed pupils at Radlett Prep School (RPS) have been busy planting trees as part of The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.
Nearly 400 trees have been planted on the school grounds on Watling Street, in a collaborative project with The Woodland Trust.
Year 1 Teacher Rebecca Mileham told RADLETTNews: “We have been given 400 tree saplings for the school land and the children have really enjoyed planting them.”
“A number of pupils have also been appointed as Woodland Ambassadors and they have already created a new composting system with food waste throughout the school.”
In November RPS pupils also took part in a competition to design 3D models for an outdoor classroom, which will be built in the growing wooded area. Pupils designs used a range of recycled materials as well as leaves, twigs, sugar, rice, Lego and beads.
