A terrifying video was shared to social media which captured the moment a young driver’s car was hit on the A405 in Garston.
On Saturday, January 25, a car driven by a 17 year old was hit from behind by a van, forcing the young driver into the live lane.
The father of the driver posted on Facebook: “The dreaded junction on the A405. Apologies for the language in the video. Thankfully just whiplash and a write-off of my son’s car.
“This is proof that no one pays attention on this junction. My son was rear ended by a van driver also crossing the junction, however this could have ended up a lot worse for my son, having been rammed into the middle of the oncoming carriageway.
“My son was stationary at the intersection waiting for the carriageway to clear. The van crossed from Greenwood Drive. My son saw him in his near side mirror coming across the junction, then the collision occurred.”
The concerned father told GARSTONnews: “All I can say is that although Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) has a record of one crash in the last five years, that doesn’t count all those that go unreported.
“As a resident of the estate since 2001, the number of crashes on this road are occurring more often and HCC needs to do something. Whether this is a reduction in speed on the A405, closure of the junction or alterations to the junction into a long-about. HCC needs to be held to account before something serious happens on the road.”
HCC has been contacted for comment.
