A new trial in Pinner is looking into how the classic ‘ding ding’ of a London bus could help to reduce bus injuries.
Transport for London (TfL) is trialling the iconic Routemaster sound, along with other sounds, to see which noise acts best as a prompt for passengers to hold onto handrails or stay seated until the bus stops.
According to TfL, slips, trips and falls account for 71 per cent of customer injuries on buses.
Now, the organisation is starting a small-scale trial on route 183 that travels from Pinner to Golders Green.
A second part of the trial is taking place on route 94 travelling between Piccadilly Circus and Acton Green.
There will be teams on board the buses to gather feedback from customers.
Speaking to BBC News, Deputy Mayor of London for Transport Seb Dance said: “London’s classic red Routemaster bus is known across the globe and its ‘ding ding’ sound is instantly recognisable and nostalgic for many Londoners.”
