Debra Geard, from Abbots Langley, will be celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the UcanJog2 jogging club in August, which sees women get together in order to improve all aspects of their health, including mentally, physically and for self-worth.
In the build up to August, the club will be doing many different events throughout the year to mark the special occasion
The club started back in 2010, and AbbotsNews has featured them on numerous occasions.
Debra gave us her feelings on the upcoming anniversary, she said: “I’m so pleased and humbled that we’re still here, I would never have predicted the longevity of the club and what it has developed and evolved into.
“10 years ago, whilst I recognised that women joining together to learn to run would be effective, the club has developed into so much more.”
The group is made up of all ages, abilities and experience and they have a fantastic culture whereby no one is ever left behind whatever their preferred distance or pace and always without fear of having to keep up or being left behind.
In April this year, a team of 20 ladies are taking on the challenge of a marathon, highlighting how much the overall running ability has hugely improved within the club.
Debra added: “The majority of those ladies would never have even considered entering a marathon but because of my support, planning, guidance, encouragement and motivation they are doing it.
“It must also be said that it isn’t just me, it is each and every lady in the group who share my ethos and culture that make it all possible.”
Debra hopes the club can continue to inspire women to running for all the reasons that they have done so far.
She said: “I really hope it can go on, I’ve got no plans to stop and we want more people to join us, no matter what level they are at.”
