DEAD BADGER: Homeowner asked to pay £70 for council to remove dead badger on driveway

Published on: 6th March 2025   |   By: Nik Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

A Rickmansworth homeowner who discovered a dead badger on his driveway has described his ordeal.

After making the unpleasant discovery, Arti Patel called the local vets who advised him to call the council as the animal was already dead.

He called Three Rivers District Council (TRDC), who advised they could arrange a pick-up the next day, but there would be a fee of £71.

Arti said: “I was shocked to hear this, as if it was on a public road, there is no charge, whilst on private property, costs incur.”

A TRDC spokesperson said: “The cost to remove a dead animal found on private land is the responsibility of the property and/or landowner. The council’s dead animal collection service fee is set annually. More details can be found at www.shorturl.at/DIK2x”
