Leverstock Green played their first competitive game since March yesterday and it was a result that saw them cruise into the next round of FA Cup.
Three first half goals from Adiel Mannion, Dan Weeks and John Smith were enough to see The Trees progress to the Preliminary Round where they will face Buckinghamshire based side Burnham FC at home on Saturday, September 12.
Mannion opened the scoring on the 14th minute with a good finish after Smith’s shot initially hit the post. 1-0
Wembley didn’t take long to find the equaliser though, with Sharif Ibraham heading the ball home from the edge of the box. 1-1.
It was an action-packed opening 25 minutes, and Weeks continued the drama when he met Ollie Cox’s corner brilliantly with his head, giving the Wembley goalkeeper no chance of keeping the ball out.
After hitting the post earlier on, Smith did get the first half goal he deserved after Sidney Gueye’s shot was saved initially, but Smith made no mistake with the rebound.
Smith nearly added his second and Leverstock Green’s fourth early on in the second half but his effort went just wide of the mark.
The final 10 minutes saw Wembley put pressure on The Trees, but the Hemel Hempstead-based side held on to reach the next round.
