A teenager from Croxley Green saw off hundreds of other singers and bands to reach the London Grand Final of a music competition.

Rebecca Christina Barry, 15, of The Reach Free School, auditioned for the annual Soundwaves Music Competition for a chance to tour the UK and win an abundance of large scale prizes designed to bring as much coverage and music exposure to the overall winner as possible.

The final will take place at O2 Islington on Saturday, July 13, where 14 budding bands and singers – including Rebecca – will take to the mainstage in what’s anticipated to be a music celebration and also the chance to perform in front of record labels and music industry personnel in a bid to win a slot in the grand UK final in Birmingham.

Previous entrants include America’s Got Talent star Courtney Hadwin and X Factor’s Sam Lavery.

Mum Samantha Bates said: “I am extremely proud of Rebecca she works incredibly hard and she loves to perform and lights up when she is sharing her music. Rebecca is currently working on her EP which is due to be released early next year.”

The bands and singers which have been selected to perform in the upcoming final have made it through a series of tough audition stages with hundreds of acts applying.

The event is celebrating and honing some of the best music artists in Southern England and all the acts will be competing to win a UK Tour and music management support.

Rebecca will also play at the Croxley Green community centre festival at 7pm on July 14.
