Eight fire engines, an aerial ladder platform and command support unit were sent to the scene.

Smoke from the fire was affecting multiple floors of the building. Firefighters evacuated the building while crews located and tackled the fire.

The fire was located in the bin chute and was successfully extinguished by 12.30am.

Thirteen  people were given precautionary first aid checks at the scene, and one person was taken to hospital by the ambulance service.

An investigation was carried out and the fire was found to be accidental.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer Andy Hall said: “Fires in tower blocks can be challenging to deal with, and are obviously worrying for residents. I’d like to thank our control room operators and firefighters for dealing with this complex incident in such and organised and professional way.”
