St Albans City have made an emphatic return to competitive football with a solid 5-0 victory in the FA Cup Second Qualifying Round at home against Hitchin Town.
After almost seven months without competitive football, there were some new and some familiar names on the score sheet.
Shaun Jeffers opened the scoring, and his personal account for the Saints after he slotted the ball beyond Hitchin’s ‘keeper on the 12th minute.
St Albans doubled their lead just six minutes later, with Jeffers getting his second goal of the day, this time from the penalty spot after Warner-Eley was brought down in the box.
Despite controlling the majority of the game, it wasn’t until the 87th minute when St Albans added a third, this time it was a familiar name in Zane Banton who beat the keeper at the near post.
The floodgates began to open after that, and a fourth goal was added in the 89th minute, this time via an own goal.
The Saints finished the game in style, and the five-star performance was made official when Joseph Chidyausiku got in on the scoring act.
St Albans have now reached the same stage as they did last year, with the Third Qualifying Round scheduled to take place in 10 days.
