Churchgoers anger at mindless vandalism

Published on: 1st August 2018   |   By: Jason Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

Furious churchgoers at All Saints in Croxley Green have hit out at vandals who tore down a gazebo that had been left up in the church garden last month.

The gazebo had been put up on July 7 in preparation for a Chiltern Hills Brass Band Concert and the parochial church council decided to leave it up as there was a confirmation in church the day after the concert.

The PCC decided to leave the gazebo up to offer some welcome shade to members of the congregation and villagers who enjoy visiting the garden.

But on July 22 just before a church service, the damage was discovered along with pizza boxes strewn across the garden.

Ann Palmer is chair of the church’s social and fundraising committee.

She said she was extremely disappointed at what happened.

Ann commented: “Initially it was anger then despair. It was completely needless and pointless and there was just no point to doing it. The gazebo had been uprooted and it was trashed and lying on its side. We know it was ok the day before as there was someone cutting the grass in the garden.

“It wasn’t the best gazebo in the world. I thought if anything happened to it, someone might have stolen it – then we wouldn’t have felt so bad. It was just so mindless.”
