A group of young musicians in Hemel Hempstead managed to raise more than £1,300 for a children’s charity with a garden concert.
Organised by Talia Dussek and Maisie Bassett, the ‘Gig in the Garden’ took place on the afternoon of Saturday, July 30, all as part of a fundraising effort for Charlie’s Gift, a charity that provides funding to disadvantaged kids across the Three Counties.
The event, which was held in Talia’s back garden, had many members of the local community attend, with neighbours, friends and family coming together to support the concert, some of whom even took part as special guests.
The house band, formed by Talia and her friends Joe Reed-Hook, Olly Dyer, Evan Hancock and Joe Hutchings, performed several tunes throughout the afternoon as Maisie took on hosting duties, with equipment lent over by local youth theatre group Gobstoppers.
Money was raised through tickets for entry, food and drink sold at the event and a raffle of prizes donated by friends and family. Overall, the event smashed the fundraising goal of £300, managing to raise more than £1,300 in total.
