CHARITY CHALLENGE: Inspirational runners from Croxley take on Royal Parks Half Marathon

Published on: 8th November 2025   |   By: News Desk   |   Category: Uncategorized

A team of inspirational runners from Croxley completed the Royal Parks Half Marathon, despite a false start getting to the capital.

The runners took on the 13.1-mile course around central London, which includes St James’s Park, Green Park and Hyde Park, on Sunday, October 12.

However, the day didn’t get off to the best start when the first train out of Croxley was cancelled.

Thankfully, this didn’t stop the Croxley runners, who all completed the course for their own reasons.

This included Linda Walke, who teaches Year 4 at Yorke Mead Primary School and said: “I ran as two families at the school have had children affected and lost their lives to rhabdomyosarcoma.

“It was an amazing experience running through London’s parks and landmarks, and knowing that I was helping raise funds for such an important cause made every mile worthwhile.”

Croxley councillor Chris Lloyd, who was also part of the group, is no stranger to running challenges, having previously featured in CROXLEYnews for taking on three marathons in a month.

He said: “I ran for Ovacome as I have a friend with stage four ovarian cancer and another friend whose mum died of ovarian cancer.

“It was a new route this year. The highlight was meeting Glenda, a police officer from Bristol, and we ran from start to finish together.”

Meanwhile, Matt Elms and Steve Maye run in memory of their friend Keith Akers, raising money for Great Ormond Street Hospital and Prostate Cancer UK. Together, they raised over £1,000.
