In last month’s edition of RickyNews, we reported that the pedestrianisation of Ricky’s High Street has been met with mixed reviews.
District Councillor for Rickmansworth Town Andrea Fraser shared that Batchworth Community Council was to meet with Three Rivers District Council on October 9. Cllr Fraser said that BCC would lobby for the High Street to be reopened to cars during the week but kept pedestrianised at weekends.
Ahead of the outcome of that consultation being released, RickyNews caught up with local business-owners to hear their concerns about the current situation.
A representative from The Meat like It Used To Be Company said: “I don’t need to tell you how many businesses have shut down. We get around 25 per cent of our businesses from the short time that the barriers are open to traffic on a Saturday morning.”
This sentiment was echoed by salespeople at F.L Dickins wine shop, who said: “It’s been so quiet, the barriers don’t encourage people to come.”
Meanwhile, Adrian Kitachi at the Renaissance Tattoo Parlour stated: “I’m all for having the road pedestrianised, but I don’t trust the council to do that properly.
“If they do reopen the High Street to traffic, it will go back to how it was pre-pandemic, and footfall was rapidly declining already.”
