A daughter from Ruislip questioned Health Secretary Matt Hancock about the lack of advice regarding nursing and care home visits during the pandemic.
A caller named Joan, from Ruislip, challenged Mr Hancock during LBC’s Call the Cabinet segment yesterday (Monday, September 7) regarding unclear advice on the visiting of care homes – while advice on going to pubs and restaurants has been plentiful.
Joan said her mother has been locked up in a nursing home “like a prisoner for six months, when her only crime is getting old and sick” and asked: “How do you think this is fair when you’ve opened pubs and many other things but there is no mention of these people in care and nursing homes?”
Mr Hancock responded saying that his department has now “given that decision-making to the local area and to the homes themselves.”
He added: “Before that we had put in place restrictions on visitors, which I was reluctant to do but unfortunately, it was necessary.”
He also said care homes need to make decisions for themselves after he gave them the authority to shape their own policy on visiting.
