‘BRILLIANT IDEA’: Watford hospital to receive games cart thanks to Bushey schools’ fundraising

Children from the Bushey Federation Schools took on a marathon to raise money for a games cart, inspired by fellow student Ethan Robbins.

Ethan was diagnosed with leukaemia in September 2024, and underwent treatment at Watford General Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).

Following chemotherapy, Ethan spent six weeks at GOSH due to a fungal infection, and it was during this time that he was introduced to a games cart.

The carts had been donated by YouTuber DanTDM, and included a Nintendo Switch console, a large screen, inbuilt games and extra controllers.

Speaking to Bushey News, Ethan’s mum Rebekah shared: “The games cart lifted his spirits and we thought it was such a brilliant idea.”

The Robbins family wanted to make the same difference to children at Watford General Hospital by purchasing the site’s first games cart.

Rebekah said: “We are doing it to make a difference to kids’ lives who are in hospital and give them joy and happiness in a time that is quite rough.”

The Bushey Federation Schools, where Ethan studies, wanted to support the cause.

On the week beginning Monday, June 16, students ran a combined marathon and held a bake sale.

The school shared: “Since Ethan’s diagnosis, the school has wanted to support him and his family and say thank you to Watford General Hospital for the care and treatment they gave to Ethan.

“The children loved keeping track of their laps, aiming to run at least three marathons per class. It was amazing to see classes working together.”

They raised a staggering £5,774, which surpassed the £3,000 needed for the cart. The leftover funds will be donated to the hospital’s wishlist.

Ethan said he was “very impressed” with all his classmates’ efforts.
