BRILLIANT BRONZE: Stanmore’s Eloise claims third place medal in strong display at fencing youth championships

A Stanmore girl earned herself a bronze medal in a strong showing at the country’s largest youth fencing competition.

Eloise Kumba Kohen (third alone in the picture) managed to get all the way to the semi-finals in the Under-15 Epee event at the English Youth Fencing Championships, held on Sunday, June 12 at Hatfield Sports Village.

This run is made all the more impressive due to her suffering from laryngitis only a few days before the competition.

Eloise won all of her early ‘poule’ fights, before advancing through two knockout rounds, before she gracefully bowed out of the contest in the semi-finals, where she lost to the eventual winner of the tournament.

Eloise has been a fencer since the age of 11 and is also part of the Team GB Girls Cadet Squad for Under 17s. Her goal is to eventually compete for Team GB in future World Championships and Olympic Games.
