A gang member has been jailed for 28 years at Reading Crown Court today (Friday, February 13) following a shooting on the A41 in Watford in 2024.
On July 25, 2024, at around 3.30pm, a disturbance occurred in a park in Meriden Way. Following the violent disorder, at around 5.20pm the same day, a man was travelling southbound on an e-bike on the A41 when he became involved in an altercation with the occupants of a black BMW.
During the confrontation, a shot was fired at the e-bike rider. He suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition. Thankfully, he has since made a full recovery.
The driver of the BMW, Hekmat Galmne, aged 27 and formerly of Village Way, Pinner, was previously found guilty of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, with the jury concluding that he fired the shot. He has been sentenced to 28 years’ imprisonment.
Detective Inspector Mark Butler, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said: “This was an appalling act of violence committed in broad daylight on a busy stretch of road.
“Galmne showed complete disregard for human life and for the safety of the public. It is only through sheer luck that this incident did not result in a fatality or injure innocent members of the public.
“Today’s sentence reflects the gravity of his actions and sends a clear message: violence of this nature will not be tolerated. We will relentlessly pursue anyone who chooses to carry or use a firearm in our communities, and they should expect to face very significant prison time.”
