DEBUT TRACK: Boy from Hemel releases song for dyslexia awareness

Published on: 19th February 2023   |   By: Megan Milstead   |   Category: Uncategorized

A 14-year-old boy from Hemel Hempstead has released his debut song about dyslexia to raise awareness and funds for charity.

Joshua Thomas-Conn, who was diagnosed with dyslexia, wrote 500 Words using lyrics that describe how the disability makes him feel.

The line “500 words spinning around” is a reference to how words on the page spin around and how reading can be a challenge for him.

He said: “I wanted to do something with my voice and write a song about something I could connect to. The song promotes the message of dyslexia.”

He said that his friends think it’s “nice” that someone is speaking about the topic, as some of them are dyslexic too.

Joshua will be donating some of the funds raised from the song to the British Dyslexia Association and The Brain Charity.

Dad Adam Paul Conn said: “Me and his mum are super proud of him. When he said he had written his own song, we were so proud and booked him into a studio in London. He’s really got a gift for music.”

500 Words is out now on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, YouTube and TikTok.
