After winning an award for his work in his school library, a Radlett pupil is working to make sure that other children have access to books.
Reuben Colton, 11, was given a National Commendation at the Pupil Library Assistant of the Year Awards in April, recognising his fantastic efforts in helping in the library at Edge Grove School.
Now, Reuben is working alongside his eight-year-old sister Ava to make sure that other schoolchildren across the country have the opportunity to access a dedicated reading space.
Based on current statistics, one in seven state schools in the UK don’t have their own library.
Reuben and Ava have begun a fundraising campaign called Blooms for Books, and are raising money to buy books and help create reading spaces for schools that otherwise couldn’t afford them.
So far, the siblings have donated lots of books to Westfield Primary School in Berkhamsted. Reuben has also been interviewed about the campaign by Nick Robinson on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.
