The Annual Grand Jumble Sale, which raises money for the Northwood Scouts, returns later this month to mark 100 years since the first recorded sale.
At 2pm on Saturday, May 31, doors to the Northwood Scouting Centre will open for locals to browse electricals, china and glassware, books, clothing, hardware, bicycles, toys and games, outdoor equipment, and sports equipment.
As usual, a BBQ with hot and cold drinks will keep customers fed as they shop.
Northwood & Ruislip News spoke to Tim Shipman, leader of the Scout troop, who said: “Every year, a dedicated team of volunteers work tirelessly for the event, immersing the young people in the experience and helping them to learn new skills including leaflet deliveries, jumble collections, and sorting and preparing for the sale. It’s a wonderful experience for all!
“For the centenary, we are hoping to make it the biggest and best yet.”
This year’s event will mark 100 years since the group’s first recorded jumble sale, though it is possible more occurred before records started.
Tim added: “The proceeds of the sale go towards the running of the Scout group for the benefits of the local community. Scouting is an amazing organisation that helps young people grow in confidence and skills.”
The sale will take place at the Scouting Centre, 87 Northwood Way, Northwood, HA6 1RT.
